Android Low Memory Exit Detection
Automatic Detection: This feature is automatically activated for both debug and release builds on Android 11+ (API Level 30+).
Appxiom SDK automatically tracks process terminations caused by the Android OS Low Memory Killer (LMK) using ApplicationExitInfo system APIs.
When your application process is killed by the operating system due to system-wide low memory pressure, Appxiom retrieves the exit diagnostics on the next application launch and reports an issue of Type 36 (LOW_MEMORY_EXIT_ISSUE) to the dashboard.
Overview
Low Memory Exits occur when the OS reclaims memory by terminating background or cached processes under heavy system RAM pressure.
Key Capabilities
- LMK Process Tracking: Distinguishes system-enforced low memory kills from standard app crashes or out-of-memory errors.
- Historical Correlation: Provides activity trail prior to termination.
- Zero Configuration: Automatically enabled for API Level 30+.
Integration Requirements
This feature works automatically once basic SDK integration is complete.
// No additional code needed - automatic detection on API Level 30+
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does Low Memory Exit (Type 36) differ from Low Memory Warning (Type 9)?
A.
- Low Memory Warning (Type 9): Triggered while the app is actively running when system memory reaches low thresholds (
onLowMemory/onTrimMemory). - Low Memory Exit (Type 36): Reported post-mortem on app restart after the Android OS Low Memory Killer has forcibly terminated the process.
