The BugSnag alternative that ranks bugs by the journeys they break
BugSnag reports errors and stability scores. Appxiom covers Android, iOS, Flutter and Web: it reports app hangs, failing APIs and memory leaks as issues out of the box, and shows which ones stop users from finishing checkout, signup or any goal you define.
Appxiom or BugSnag?
Both are good tools. The right one depends on what you ship and which bugs hurt you most.
Choose Appxiom if…
You want to know which bugs stop users from finishing checkout or signup. You want app hangs, failing APIs, frozen frames and memory leaks reported as issues without extra plugins or setup. You prefer a flat price per app, by device tier, with unlimited seats and no per-event quotas. You want your AI coding agent to see each bug's business impact and the user's trail along with the stack trace.
Keep BugSnag alongside Appxiom if…
Your volume fits the free plan: 7,500 events a month with 7 days of history. You also ship React Native apps. BugSnag supports React Native and Appxiom does not. You also monitor server-side code (Node.js, Python, Ruby, Java, Go, PHP, .NET) with BugSnag. You also ship Unity or Unreal Engine games and want their errors to stay in BugSnag.

Where Appxiom and BugSnag differ
Non-crash bugs reported by default
BugSnag handles crashes, Android ANRs, fatal iOS hangs and iOS out-of-memory terminations well. The quieter bugs take more work: non-fatal iOS hangs are off until you set a threshold, network requests need a plugin and become errors only for status codes you list, and frame rendering is an opt-in metric in the separate Performance SDK.
Appxiom reports each of these as its own issue from the first release, with a stack trace, device state and Activity Trail: iOS app hangs, ANRs while they happen, failed, slow and duplicate API calls, frozen frames, screen-level memory leaks in release builds (Activity, Fragment and ViewController), Kotlin Multiplatform leaks in ViewModels and Compose Multiplatform screens you register with Ax.watchLeaks or AxWatchLeakOnDispose, and screen load and startup delays.
The key difference
BugSnag:
A checkout API that times out is a breadcrumb, unless you configured its status code as an error.
Appxiom:
The same timeout is an issue with the device, the stack and the screens and taps that led to it.
See which bugs stop users finishing a journey
BugSnag's stability score is the share of users or sessions without an unhandled error, compared against target and critical levels you set. On Enterprise you can also break errors down by feature flag and experiment. None of that tells you whether a bug blocked a purchase or a settings screen nobody uses.
Appxiom's Goal Friction Impact (GFI) scores each user journey from 0 to 10. You mark a goal with two calls (beginGoal and completeGoal on mobile, startGoal and endGoal on web), and Appxiom links the bugs users hit to whether they finished. GFI is part of the Professional plan.
The key difference
BugSnag:
Errors ranked by events, users affected and their effect on stability.
Appxiom:
Journeys like checkout ranked by GFI score, with the issues users hit before they gave up.
A flat price per app, by device tier
BugSnag plans are sized by events and spans per month. When a bad release floods your project, events over your limit are rate-limited. A stability score shows how many sessions were crash-free, but not which journeys or users those failures affected.
Appxiom charges a flat price per app, by device tier, with unlimited seats and no per-event billing. For example, a crash loop on 1,000 devices costs the same as a quiet week on those devices.
The key difference
BugSnag:
Plans tiered by event and span volume. Stability features start on Preferred.
Appxiom:
Starter covers up to 10,000 monthly active devices per app for $10/month. Professional covers up to 100,000 for $99/month.
See what the user did before every issue
BugSnag attaches breadcrumbs to each error event. On iOS they cover things like low-memory warnings, device rotation, window changes and table selections. Network requests appear only after you add the network plugin, and a hang or slow API that never becomes an error has no event to carry a trail.
Appxiom's Activity Trail is captured by its own SDK with no extra setup: taps and clicks, screen transitions, app lifecycle changes and network connectivity changes, each with the free memory at that moment. Add your own markers anywhere in the code with one line. Every issue gets a trail, including ANRs, app hangs, failed APIs and memory leaks, so you can retrace the exact steps instead of asking how to reproduce it.
The key difference
BugSnag:
Breadcrumbs on error events. Network breadcrumbs need a plugin.
Appxiom:
A trail of taps, screens, lifecycle and network changes with free memory at each step, on every issue type.
One release score across every issue type
A BugSnag session counts against stability when it has an unhandled error. Hangs that recover, slow APIs and memory problems sit outside that number.
Appxiom's Quality Score combines crashes, ANRs, memory and network issues into one score per release, weighted by severity and users affected, so you can compare versions at a glance (Professional plan).
The key difference
BugSnag:
Release health measured as user or session stability against your targets.
Appxiom:
A Quality Score per version across every issue type, with Issue Distribution Analytics to spot regressions.
Give your coding agent the business impact of each bug
BugSnag also works with an MCP server. The SmartBear MCP server lets agents in tools like VS Code with Copilot list BugSnag errors, read events and stack traces, check releases and performance spans, and mark errors as fixed.
Appxiom's MCP server gives your agent the same kind of access, and adds GFI for each user journey, Quality Score, Issue Distribution Analytics and the full Activity Trail. Appxiom Agent Skills set up the SDK on every platform, and the @appxiom/mcp-skills package teaches the agent to rank goal drop-offs and judge severity by business impact.
The key difference
BugSnag:
The agent sees errors, events, stack traces and stability.
Appxiom:
The agent sees which journeys are failing, what the user did before it, and how much it matters.
Use both, or switch when you're ready
You don't have to remove BugSnag to try Appxiom. Both SDKs can run in the same app, so you can compare them on a real release before you decide.
Add Appxiom next to BugSnag
Your coding agent can set up the integration using Appxiom Agent Skills. Prefer to do it by hand? Add the SDK and call init with your app and platform keys.
Track one key journey
Wrap a flow that matters, such as checkout or signup, in a goal. That turns on Goal Friction Impact for it.
Compare on a real release
Ship a version with both SDKs and see what each one reports. Then keep both, or remove BugSnag from your mobile and web apps if you no longer need it there.
No data migration is needed. Appxiom reports issues from the first release that includes it, and your past BugSnag history stays in BugSnag. If you use BugSnag for server-side code, you can keep it there.
